An Unplug & Connect: IRL EventJanuary 11 – National Human Trafficking Awareness Day
Human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the world, and the United States is a top destination. It’s a $150 billion global industry (U.S. Department of State), and according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), reports of online enticement of children have increased by 82% in the last five years. Nearly 1 in 9 children who use the internet have been sexually solicited online.
Most of these children weren’t kidnapped.They were recruited.Through conversations that started online.Through connections that felt safe—but weren’t.
